Client case study - feels like home...

Richard Higgs from Harold Stephens - Independent Financial Advisors, came to us through Visuable in November 2018. They were rebranding Richards IFA business and building a new website for him. We were asked to build on that brand concept and create an interior that reflected it, as they were relocating his business nearer to his client base.

The brief was to create a meeting room and personal office design that had a nostalgic old-style living room feel, but with a modern twist.

The Premises:

The new premises was a shop on Westbury On Trym’s High street. It had previously been a bridal shop with bright white walls, floral wallpaper and chandelier style lighting. Everything needed changing!

Taking Visuable’s brand concept, we started to visualise out what that meant in terms of a physical space and source items that might work. Key elements of this scheme are; a love of the countryside, animals and using natural materials like leather, wool and tweed.

The aim and challenge was to transform this white and cold space into a warm, welcoming and homely space. Somewhere people might feel like it had been there for a long time.

Design details:

The colour palette was inspired by the countryside. In order to create a cosy space, I opted to be bold with these colour choices and cover all walls with deep hued green paint and feature wallpaper.

This created an intense look which is lifted by the artwork, objects of interest, pops of gold in accessories and the lighting scheme.

The pheasant wallpaper is a great design that is modern in style and design, yet depicts a traditional image. This wallpaper from Barnaby Gates proved popular. So much so that it influenced the company logo!

Furniture choices needed to be really good quality and made from natural materials. A mix of newly made and pre-loved auction furniture was sourced. The result is a comfortable, functional and pleasing look that was also good value for money.

The art and accessories chosen reflect country lifestyles and evoke memories of new and old. For example, the old leather and gold books establish a sense of knowledge which evokes trust.

The flooring was old and worn and needed replacing. A warm honey shade wool twist was chosen for its warmth, comfort and quality.  Lighting had to be totally changed too. The previous shop was light and bright. What was needed now was warmer, cosier and home inspired lighting.

Overall a total of 25 suppliers were used to create this look. Homes are created in layers over time and as such sourcing from a wide range of shops and suppliers, helped to replicate the collection of objects that normally take home owners years to achieve.
